Social Media, Privacy, and Digital Minimalism

Through this article I want to tell my opinion about social media and privacy;  Also digital minimalism as a solution for our online life today. I've written about my social media detox experience. It's really useful and I hope you try it also.

In my opinion, social media is a tool that everyone has their way to use it. Some people use it for business, promoting their stuff and it's positive. Some people use it to promote their life, capture every moment; funny, sad, etc, then share it on their account. I think, not everything we have must be shown, and not everything we see we have to have. Let's control our desire. Not everything we have must be shown, such as buying new stuff, dating friends, chilling out, family time, office time, sad, fun, laughing, crying, etc. Actually, who are we trying to impress? Would they care about what we share? Not everything we see we have to have. We usually wasted our time scrolling online shopping and buy things based on what we want not what we need. This is our life today and I experienced it.

Have you heard about digital minimalism? According to Cal Newport, Digital Minimalism is a philosophy of technology use based on the understanding that our relationship with our apps, tools, and phones is nuanced and deserves more intention than we give it. The goal is to simplify our online life and focus on activities we valued. On social media, everything looks awesome. After capturing we don't immediately share it but edited it first to make the moment looks perfect. We can't judge someone only by their post. You can send a sad emoticon and at the same time, you laugh. Someone's post is not a parameter of their life, but, sometimes it is. Never let social media control our life. Take the advantage of it and let FOMO and anxiety go. Instead of focusing on what moment will we post today, it is better to focus on our own life,  living a secret life, and having privacy. Who really required you to post your daily life routinely? Post the stuff, not privacy.

If you feel that social media is so addictive, I want to invite you to implement digital minimalism, to do social media detox. You can try it for a month, a week, or only twenty-four. Feel the difference!
